  • Howard Marchitello, Dean CCAS, was on hand to discuss his new role as Dean of Arts and Sciences. His main goals will be focusing on student success, undergraduate success, student mentoring, and enhancing Rutgers’s status as a research university. Dr. Marchitello will also be continuing to develop graduate programs. The Dean’s Office will also be monitoring Labor Relations and the promotion and tenure process requirements for teaching portfolios. More information has been requested and will be given at a later date.
  • Concerns were presented to Dr. Marchitello regarding the impact of student feedback on teaching evaluations and their impact on faculty promotions. Dr. Marchitello does not believe in eliminating SIRS, but is in support of designing more fair and comprehensive evaluations.
  • Patrice Mareschal, Union President was on hand to discuss union contracts. The union is working closely with Labor Relations and pushing for more frequent meetings. The union is currently negotiating the latest counter offers on the grievance procedures, faculty appointments, Article 15 (professional duties), Article 20 (Health & Safety) pertaining to mold in the buildings, and the ability to lock classroom doors from the inside. The union is also bargaining the introduction of Infosilem which is a program scheduler to maximize the use of space on campus. The union is continuing to reiterate increases in salary for graduate workers and merit increases for faculty.
  • Concerns were expressed at the end of the meeting pertaining to the lack of communication to the campus regarding a classroom invasion that happened earlier in the month during a night class in Armitage Hall. Dr. Marchitello will be meeting with Chief Dinan to discuss new safety measures (swipe access, showing identification).
