- Dean Griffin came to speak to the Senate and answered faculty questions pertaining to a proposed metric for assessing departments, budget shortfalls, administrative costs, and revenue for online courses.
- The President suggested an emergency meeting on Friday, 11/18/22, consisting of 4-5 senators along with department chairs to discuss and brainstorm potential alternatives to the proposed metric.
- The President put a motion on the table to approve changes recently made to the Faculty Handbook by the Dean’s Office. The motion was approved.
Voting record: 27 ayes, 0 opposed, 1 abstention.
- The President’s updates were tabled in the interest of time.
- The Secretary presented and discussed an issue being organized by the Climate Justice Committee of the Union, regarding a potential catastrophic natural gas line transportation proposal. The hazardous substances would have to be released near a preschool in order to create the terminal facility. This directly threatens the RU-Camden and the broader Camden community. The committee is working with a student group called Green Thumbs to circulate a petition addressed to Governor Murphy to stop the Gibbstown LNG terminal. Please consider signing the petition and circulating the petition to your departments, which can be found here: https://rutgers.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_54EzpSLPprKYQ06. Please also let Jovanna know if she or a student member of Green Thumbs can come speak at your class to raise awareness amongst students. Anyone interested in participating around the organization against this project is welcome to let Jovanna know as well.
- James Boucher provided updates on the Ad Hoc Committee on Shared Governance:
- Documents will be posted on the Senate Canvas site representing some changes to committee structures. Please review the documents. If anyone has prior experience on any of the committees, please feel free to reach out to James B. or Susan, and/or comment on the document on the Canvas site.
- A Statement on Shared Governance document, drafted by Lori and Lauren, will also be posted on the Canvas site for possible suggestions or revisions.
Please make suggestions for revisions by Wednesday, 11/23/22. The goal is to have any amendments to the bylaws put up for a vote at the next meeting in December, and then call for a full faculty meeting to approve.
