The meeting was called to order at approximately 11:20 a.m.., with FASC Senate President Bill Fitzgerald presiding. There are 33 Senators, including 3 officers and four senators-at-large. Of the 42 voting members, 30 were present.  A quorum was met. 

  • A motion to approve the minutes of January 26, 2022, was made. The motion to approve the minutes was Voting record: 29 ayes, 0 opposed, 1 abstention

  • President Holloway
    • How to make acute needs of campus higher on agenda
    • No follow up from Holloway’s office regarding meeting
    • Committed to addressing campus issues
    • Send invitation to Holloway to see what concrete steps have been taken

 

  • Meeting with Chancellor Tillis
    • Pledged commitment to campus inequities
    • Programs for building expansion
    • Curriculum in hands of faculty
    • Provost to be possible hub for curriculum development to assist with collaborations across campus
    • Discussed benefits of a research university
    • Better funding needed for long term diversity hires
    • Chancellor is eager to meet with anyone to discuss concerns

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • RCM
    • Issues expressed pertaining to RCM  
    • President believes it should be changed, but unsure if that is possible
    • Jim Brown spoke with President Holloway regarding central conflict with Rutgers-Camden and budget expectations
    • Holloway sees RCM as equal
    • Request list of actions campus would like to see with RCM
    • Chancellor plans to start strategic planning process this summer  

 

  • Subcommittees on faculty governance
    • No traction yet
    • Develop clear vision of what shared governance is
    • Regular meetings needed
    • Combine both committees into one
    • Create larger committee to discus issues with RCM, diversity hiring, etc.

 

  • Dean’s Search

    • 3/9/22 initial round of candidates to be chosen
    • April will be initial round of interviews
    • First week of May final round of interviews will be held
    • 7/1/22 new Dean in place
