The meeting was called to order at approximately 12:50 p.m., with FASC Senate President Jim Brown presiding. There are 43 Senators, including two officers and five senators-at-large. Of the 43 voting members, 35 were present.  A quorum was met. 

  • A motion to approve the minutes of October 29, 2019 was made. The motion to approve the minutes with the correction was Voting record: 35 ayes, 0 opposed, 0 abstention

  • New Business
    • Food drive taking place until the end of the semester.
    • Faculty Life Committee will be holding a meeting with Chief Dinan on 12/5/19 to discuss campus safety and parking concerns.
    • Writing Retreat 1/13-1/14/20. Food provided.
    • Chancellor’s Office will supplement the library budget to open the library for extended hours during reading days and final exams.

 

  • Kimberlee Moran attended the meeting to discuss the dining contract.
    • Adjustments are being made to the existing dining contract.
    • Students (not faculty) can now bring in outside food under $50.
    • Cash is accepted.
    • Progress is being made with the ability to purchase food from outside vendors
    • Stephen Danley from Public Policy and Administration is attempting to build a coalition with faculty to continue addressing the dining contract issues. If you are interested please email him at danley@rutgers.edu.
  • Susan Miller, faculty representative for the Advising and Retention Council attended the meeting
    • Undergraduate advisors and faculty support staff to help struggling students become more successful.
    • Student success pamphlet and Raptor Flight Probation Booklet can be found on Sakai at sakai.rutgers.edu
    • Students concerns should still be flagged even if they are not in danger of failing.
    • Students have to log into Raptor Connect directly to view comments.
    • Researching if it is possible to directly email concerns to students rather than logging into Raptor Connect.
    • Researching better ideas for students to utilize office hours, change to “student hours”.
    • Faculty can require mandatory meeting times.
    • Faculty concerns about giving too many student warnings looks negative
    • Faculty can email their concerns or ideas for struggling students to millersa@camden.rutgers.edu
  • Building Access and Campus Security
    • Meeting held with Chief Dinan.
    • Shortage of security/reduction in hours due to budget cuts.
    • Security alerts do not go out immediately or are reported unless a crime is committed.
    • RUPD is not associated with JHSC because it is not a Rutgers building, but escorts can be provided.
    • Pilot program for emergency notifications in classrooms is in effect (mechanical locks, panic buttons).
    • Swipe access budget was $30,000 per building.
    • Resolution presented for Jim Brown to meet with Dean Marchitello to discuss budget concerns, forced faculty austerity, sharing burden of costs for systems we don’t need. Voting record: 21 ayes, 11 opposed, 1 abstention.
