Meeting of the Faculty Senate
Approved Minutes
January 25, 2017

The meeting was called to order at 12:25 p.m.

  1. A motion was made to form a working group to explore how we can assist and protect our DACA students. The motion was approved unanimously by voice vote.
  2. A motion was made to approve the minutes of November 30, 2016. The motion was approved unanimously by voice vote.
  3. Lauren Grodstein, director of our MFA program, reported the award of a $1,000,000 grant over the next four years from President Barchi. The MFA program would like to use some of these funds to involve other graduate programs in an interdisciplinary collaboration. Please contact Lauren for more information and student introductions.
  4. Leah Falk, Program Coordinator for the Writers House, gave a brief report on the first-year activities and results, and shared the vision and plans for the coming year.
  5. Julie Still, on behalf of the Academic Policy Committee, made motions to approve:
    • a proposal for a new minor in Leadership Studies. Seconded, and approved (all ayes and five abstentions).

*During the discussion, a motion was made to require that a representative from each department or program with a course or program for approval at FASC meetings be present in order for the FASC to vote on APC recommendations. The motion was approved unanimously by voice vote.

  1. With regard to a proposal for counting Principles and Practices in Quantitative Biology as fulfilling the GenEd requirement for quantitative analysis, several senators questioned the course’s suitability and discussed whether there should be statistical analysis courses for each discipline. Voice vote: all approved (all ayes and 4 nays.)
  2. An ELearning Conference on March 30, 2017 will be free to faculty. The call for proposals will be open until February 19, 2017. For more info: camden.rutgers.edu.

A motion was made and approved to adjourn. The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
