Meeting of the CCAS Faculty Senate

Approved Minutes

September 30, 2025

 

The meeting was called to order at approximately 12:45 p.m., with CCAS Faculty Senate Vice President James Boucher presiding. There are 33 Senators, including 3 officers and 3 senators-at-large. Of the 33 voting members, 20 were present. A quorum was met.

I.  A motion to approve the minutes of April 29, 2025, was made. The motion to approve the minutes was approved.

Voting record: 18 ayes, 0 opposed, 2 abstentions.

 

II.  Discussion of APC courses and programs

a.  Alex Roche, Chair of APC, discussed the Senate’s role in approving new courses. While the APC Committee formally approves new course proposals, the Committee solicits input from the faculty Senate. As senators are reviewing new course proposals, there is an opportunity to discuss with their respective departments and bring any questions to the APC chair prior to formal approval.

IV.  Creation of Ad Hoc Committee to research online resources

a.  The Senate Executive Committee is looking to reformulate an ad hoc committee to investigate:

i. online teaching, in terms of academic quality, student outcomes, instructional technology, and faculty support;

ii. AI, in terms of AI literacy, ethical guidelines, impact on teaching and learning, research practices, infrastructure needs, faculty/student development, and data privacy.

A motion to create an ad hoc committee was made. The motion was approved.

Voting record: 19 ayes, 0 opposed, 1 abstention.
