The meeting was called to order at approximately 11:25 a.m., with FASC Senate President Julie Still presiding.  There are 36 Senators, including three officers and five senators-at-large.  Of the 28 voting members, 20 were present.  A quorum was met. 

  1. Effective for the October meeting, the agenda and materials will be emailed to the group and posted in Sakai.
  2. A motion was made to approve the minutes of May 7, 2018. The motion was   Voting record: 16 ayes, 0 opposed, 4 abstentions
  3. Courses presented by Chris Lim, Chair of the APC for approval by the Senate:
    1. Courses for Philosophy/Religion are stand-alone one credit courses to assist advance their reading and writing skills. A question was posed from the Senate floor if this course would be considered “in-load” for an instructor as it is only 1-credit.  A colleague answered, as he understands it, that load is based on number of courses (2-2) and not the number of credits and also at the department’s discretion.
    2. Course for Honors College – Traditionally courses have a dedicated academic discipline; in the honors college course proposals, the discipline is “vague” to allow for different components when it is offered.

  1. Academic Advising presented the list of candidates for August 2018 graduation degree conferrals (formerly known as the October graduates, the change reflects a University-wide effort to capture graduation data for the appropriate academic year). The list was sent to the Department Chairs for input and approval.  The students have met the requirements and are considered “graduated”.  The list presented now to the Senate is a formality.
  2. Patrice Mareschal, as a Faculty Union representative, visited to update the group on the contract negotiations with Administration and to advise the Faculty of upcoming events, meetings and opportunities to share concerns.
    1. Camden Chapter meeting – 9/20/2018 at free period (free lunch)
    2. University Senate Meeting – 9/21/2018 in New Brunswick
    3. Day of Action – 9/27/2018 – Trenton, NJ (9:30 am – noon)
    4. Board of Governor’s Meeting – October 4 (Camden Campus)
    5. Bargaining Sessions – Busch campus – please visit to show support.
    6. As of now the expired union agreement is still in place and honored by Administration with the exception of:
      1. Salary increase
      2. Merit increases
      3. Faculty Transition to Retirement.
  3. Update on the FASC Deans Search – As reported from a search committee co-chair: “the search is ongoing” and will speed up in the coming weeks.
  4. Student Support – The One Stop Shop – Financial Aid, Cashier and Registrar all now in one location (Armitage).
  5. Writing and Design Lab is expanding and housed in the old Johnson Library/Walt Whitman Center.
  6. Julie to send out a survey via SurveyMonkey – please respond with you top three priorities.
